The International Community School of Addis Ababa (ICS Addis) is an independent, coeducational day school, which offers an educational program from prekindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1964. The school year comprises 2 semesters extending approximately from mid-August to mid-June.
Organization: The School is governed by a 9-member Board of Governors, 8 of who are elected for 2-year terms by the International Community School Parent Association, the sponsor of the School. The U.S. Ambassador appoints 1 member. Membership in the association is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the School, and professional members of the staff.
Curriculum: The curriculum is that of U.S. college-preparatory public schools with the addition of the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program. Instruction is in English. French and Spanish are taught as foreign languages. Art, music, and physical education are offered at all grade levels. English-as-a-Second-Language is offered in grades 1-8. ICSAA is fully accredited in the U.S. by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is authorized by the IB Organization to offer the IB diploma. The school’s mission is to “develop the talents and intellects of a multicultural student body using learner-centered, holistic instructional methods, empowering each student to contribute in an evolving world.”
Note: We encourage families to apply as early as possible. Many grades (early childhood through grade 10) are full or close to full. Please contact the Admissions Office for wait list information. We expect waiting lists at many grade levels for August 2012.
